National Do Not Call List / National Do Not Call Registry

The National Do Not Call List, also known as National Do Not Call Registry, is a list compiled by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), comprising of phone numbers of consumers who have requested not to be called by telemarketers. Telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call List have up to 31 days from the date that the number was added to the Registry to stop calling such number. Consumers who continue to receive calls after 31 days can file a complaint online with the FTC.

Due to FTC rules, we cannot add your number to the registry on your behalf. You can add/remove your own personal numbers to/from the National Do Not Call Registry either by calling 1-888-382-1222, or online at  www.donotcall.gov . Important!!: once you have added your name to the National Do Not Call List, make sure to return to www.creditlock.com in order to also add your name to Pre-Screen Op-Out, in order to reduce unsolicited credit card offers which increase your risk of becoming a victim of Identity Theft. You should also consider Fraud Alerts Reminders, and placing a Credit Freeze / Credit Lock. It should be noted that removing a phone number from the National Do Not Call List can only be accomplished by calling 1-888-382-1222 from the registered number. Below, you will find a screen shot of the National Do Not Call Registry home page.

Some consumers do not mind honest, considerate telemarketing calls. Others would rather not receive any. Some consumers are concerned about the possibility of fraud and Identity Theft associated with a telemarketing call. Specifically, when answering a call from a stranger, is that stranger telemarketer truly whom he/she claims to be? Is it safe to provide personal data, and credit card data to such a stranger? Suppose the caller claims to be from a reputable firm known to you, and assures you so by giving you his number to call him back. Suppose you call him back, and he answers in the name of such firm. Is he really at such firm, or is he in his private firm or office claiming to be someone he is not? Consumers who chose to receive telemarketing calls should independently verify the authenticity of the caller, company, phone number (and any other relevant information) before giving away any personal data.

The Home Page primarily allows consumers to register a phone number, verify a registration, file a complaint against a telemarketer, and retrieve additional information. The registration process is a simple three click process. Upon clicking Register Now, the consumer is directed to the next page (screen shot below), to enter relevant information.

Consumers are prompted for up to three personal phone numbers to register, along with the consumer's email address. Once Submit is clicked, consumers are directed to another page to check for errors. Registration is then completed by clicking Register on that last step. Consumers will receive an email confirming their registration.
